Dogs are allowed at the communal areas and campgrounds at Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area. This part of the world is famous for stunning giant redwoods, and this state park in particular is known as the gateway to the redwoods. Fido can join you if they are on a leash under six feet long, but are not permitted on the trails. Dog owners should be advised that as a precaution against blue-green algae toxins, pets should avoid drinking from the river. The campground is open all year round and the day use areas are open from sunrise to sunset.
