Ahjumawi Lava Springs State Park is a pet-friendly place of natural beauty in McArthur, California that is only accessible by boat. Over two thirds of the area is covered by recent (three to five thousand years) lava flows, including vast areas of jagged black basalt. As well as all the lava, interesting trees line the three bodies of water at the park: Ja-She Creek, Crystal Springs, and Horr Pond. Make sure you and Fido stick to the twenty miles of trails as dogs are prohibited elsewhere and they must be leashed for the duration of your stay as going off-trail can be dangerous. The park is open from 8am to sunset every day and general camping is available between mid-May and mid-September.
