Once a booming area, occupied by gold miners, Stanislaus National Forest is now a dog-friendly natural and scenic escape. Leashed dogs are allowed in the Forest's developed recreation sites. Stanislaus has a lot for four-legged friends to discover, including relics of the gold rush, such as historic sites and artifacts, as well as eight-hundred miles of rivers and streams, pristine backcountry, sparkling lakes, snow-capped mountains, towering forests, canyons and more. Dogs are not allowed in the Forest's swimming areas.
