As a hiker you will be taken 140 million years back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. This is a very historical site that is still being excavated today in search for plant and bone fossils. You can actually watch the excavation process in the summer months. Hikers will see pieces of bones, fossils, rock corrosion, mining claim and dig sites, all well marked by informational signs along the trail. Some dinosaur bones and fossils that have been found here include Camarasaurus, Diplodacus Brachiosaurus and an Apatosaurus. But hikers be warned, you are in the desert and it can be very, very hot in the summer. Wear lots of sunscreen and protective clothing, carry lots of water for both you and your dog (it may be a good idea to wet your dog down occasionally) and dog boots would be recommended so your dog doesn't burn it's feet (like our did). Or better yet, walk this trail in the cooler spring and fall months.
