The American Basin Trail is a 4 mile hike in the San Juan Mountains that will take about 3 hours to complete round-trip. Since the trail is owned by the Bureau of Land Management, dogs are allowed off-leash both on the trail and surrounding wildflower meadows. However, Fido's favorite part will undoubtedly be taking a refreshing dip in Sloan Lake at the end of the trail, so don't forget to bring a towel!
