Butler Gulch Trail is a 4.5-mile hike in Arapaho National Forest that will take about 4 hours to complete with Fido. There is an unsightly (or interesting, depending on your point of view) molybdenum mine at the beginning of the hike, but it is an otherwise lovely hike with easy access to water, and an easy, shaded trail. To get there from I-70, take exit 232 to US 40,proceed northwest approx. 9 miles to small town of Berthoud Falls. Turn left at the sign for Jones Pass/Henderson Mine. Follow paved road 1.6 miles to a gate, turn right on Forest Road 144. The trailhead is a half mile ahead.
