Dogs are allowed at New Echota State Park, one of the most significant Cherokee Indian sites in the nation. The horrific Trail of Tears, the forced relocation of Native Americans to the west, officially started at this site. This area was the official capital for the Cherokee Nation and a spiritual home until the Trail of Tears began. There are a number of pet-friendly historic and nature trails in the area that take in the vast mountainous and wooded scenery. The fee for adult entry is $7. New Echota State Park is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm.
