Skidaway Island State Park

Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. The park provides camping and picnicking surrounded by Spanish moss-draped live oaks. Trails wind through maritime forest and over salt marsh allowing visitors to watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and migrating birds such as colorful painted buntings. An observation tower provides another chance to watch for wildlife on this barrier island. A giant ground sloth replica, birding station, reptile room, and natural and cultural exhibits are featured in the interpretive center. Dogs must be leashed at all times and are not permitted in any buildings.
