Dogs are allowed at Charlestown State Park, where you'll discover scenic vistas of the Creek valley and the Ohio River. Ornithologists could spend an age at this park trying to identify the 72 different types of bird that call this park their home, including bluebirds, black vultures and even a bald eagle. Dogs who aren't interested in looking upwards, I'm not sure they even can, will be able to hike the rugged terrain instead, consisting of Devonian fossil outcrops and areas of karst sinkhole topography. The pet-friendly hiking trails vary between 1.2 and 2.9 miles. Due to the wildlife in the area, pet owners are reminded to keep Fido on a leash for the duration of their stay.
