Fort Defiance State Park is pet-friendly. You are welcome to bring Fido with you to enjoy the trails that take you through the hills and woodlands around the fort. Built during the great depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the park's trails, picnic areas, and scenic overlooks are all popular among visitors looking to relax in classic Iowa surroundings. There are plenty of wildflowers and oak forests to discover throughout the season as well. Dogs are welcome around the park if they are on a leash under six feet. Additionally, owners are reminded to clean up any mess after their dogs.
