There are two sets of hiking trails starting right in downtown Silver City. San Vicente Trail runs along a riparian area with trees, etc. before looping out into grasslands. Much of this trail was built and maintained by local youth under YCC (Youth Conservation Corps). The Brewer Hill complex has multiple trailheads, off Market Street (high point), Bremen, and Cooper. It's trails go up and around an old manganese mining area. Bring water for your dog on this one. You can hike as long or short as you wish on both these hiking areas. Maps are available at the Chamber of Commerce, corner of Hudson and Broadway. Then, there's the entire Gila Wilderness in our backyard, with lots of beautiful trails and rivers.
