"An oasis in the desert," known for water-based recreation, camping, hiking, rock art viewing, and its rich cultural history, Amistad National Recreation Area is dog-friendly! Leashed dogs are welcome to explore picnic areas, campgrounds, parking lots, developed trails, etc. Although pets are allowed in most parts of the recreation area; pets are not allowed in administrative buildings, archaeological sites, caves and rockshelters, marinas, docks, walkways, and launch ramps, except when proceeding directly to or from a boat. Dog owners must clean up after their pets and dispose of waste in trash receptacles. While there is no entrance fee for Amistad National Recreation Area, those wanting to use a boat on the lake will need to purchase a Daily Lake Use Pass for $4.
