ROXIE—who should be renamed “LOVEBUG”
Roxie is ready for a home; not just because she would like to be in one, but because she has the manners to be successful. If someone is looking for a companion, this dog will stay close to your side. There is no sweeter animal. Within four hours in my home, she was a part of it—and without being “imposing.” She stays to the side if you tell her to—so she is not under foot.
I kenneled her at night and during brief periods during the day when I had something I needed to attend to, and she would immediately obey and enter. She never made a peep; and did not wet her bed at night. No accidents at all; always waited until we went out. A kennel is suggested for the first few weeks because that is her “safe space” right now, because even with the door open, she will go there on her own. .
Now the “outside” Roxie is a bit different and a strong handler will be required because she is STRONG! She needs work on her leash, but corrects easily. She is highly social—and loves all people. When she is enthusiastic on her leash, she has a low, low, gruff, very gruff voice. This will frighten some people who have dogs even though she is very good at play times at the shelter. Understand it is her desire to get to the dog TO PLAY, but it can be some intimidating if you don’t know her. She’s super playful and sweet. She’s dog friendly too! She needs some social skills and could easily annoy an older or unsocial dog, but she just wants to play, play, play!
Despite this, aggression seems to be the exact OPPOSITE of this dog’s nature. Loud noises do not seem to affect her at all. Occasionally with quick movements around her, she would cower and show fear, but that may be natural until she is safe and comfy in a home for a while.
This dog is wonderful and deserves the best life. I am in love!
